Barlovento and Vortex to elaborate the New Wind Atlas of Peru
The consortium led by Grupo Barlovento and Vortex FDC SL to elaborate the New Wind Atlas of Peru for the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of the Government of Peru.
The consortium has been awarded the contract after an international tender in which several prestigious consultancy companies took part. The contract was signed on 7th October and the works will begin throughout the month.
The project is framed within the Program for the Efficient and Sustainable Management of the Peruvian Power Resources –PROSEMER - carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM). This project will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The works to develop include a measurements campaign, an assessment for the use of wind for power purposes and an update of the Wind Atlas of Peru. Barlovento will contribute to the consortium with its great expertise in measurements and assessment of wind potential, as well as its knowledge of the country, as Barlovento is present in Peru since 2009 through Barlovento Renovables Latinoamérica. Vortex will add its experience in wind resource assessment with the use of meso and microscale models.
The development of wind energy in Peru is moving in the right direction. There are 240 MW installed already as a consequence of the RER bids of the last years. Nowadays, there is a new bid on process that will increase the installed wind power in 200 MW. There are areas with a great wind potential and lots of projects that are being assessed.
